despite和although的相關用法
引言
despite和although都有「儘管、雖然」的意思，不過兩者在句子中使用方式不同，這是因為despite是介係詞，後面只能加名詞或動名詞，而although是連接詞，後面可以加一個完整句子。

介系詞despite(=in spite of)＋N./Ving
例：They still made it despite the obstacles.
( 儘管有許多阻礙，他們還是成功了。 )
例：Despite having booked three nights at the Royal Hotel, he only stayed for one night due to schedule changes.
( 雖然他在皇家旅館預定了三晚，卻因為行程異動而只待了一晚。 )
→上句中，despite是介係詞，後面接的是一個動名詞片語，不可以接一個有包含動詞的子句。若despite後面要加子句的話，要用despite the fact that帶出。

連接詞although(=even though)＋子句
例：Although he had booked three nights at the Royal Hotel, he only stayed for one night due to schedule changes.
( 雖然他在皇家旅館預定了三晚，卻因為行程異動而只待了一晚。 )
→上句中，although是連接詞，後面接的是一個子句（由主詞和動詞組成）。這裡要注意的地方是，句子裡已有although這個連接詞了，因此後面不能再加上另一個連接詞but。
